.We are faith-based and gospel-driven. We do many of the same things that many other organizations do to develop community and end poverty. We avoid coercion and manipulation like a plague. But we are incited to act by an internal motivation and driven by a hopeful conviction that we call “gospel.”
It keeps us going and informs our sense of calling. At the same time, it gives us a confident peace that, in spite of any discouragement, this is going to work and that our work will never be in vain.
The gospel is good news, for the present and for the future.
Communities, broken by poverty and violence; lives broken by discouragement and disappointment; families torn by betrayal and disintegrating trust; all of these long for hope.
We grasp for hope like a drowning person grasps for a flotation device. We do so as a starving person grabs any morsel of food that promises nourishment. We lap it up like a thirsty soul in a desert of sand.
We long for healing.
All men and women long for healing hope.
If someone can bring that hope, he or she becomes an agent of value. His or her presence becomes a beacon of light that catalyzes courage and action.
Present hope is the possibility of temporal, if only temporary change. Systems can change. Policies can change. Families can change. Communities can change. Even generations can change direction.
Future hope blasts out the message that there is ultimate change coming that will be complete and permanent. It also brings courage, but it also infuses struggling people and stragglers with patience and perseverance.
We use methods that are tried, true as well as innovative. We employ strategies and apply our best efforts to the causes we embrace.
When that is not enough — and even when it seems to be enough, the hope we cling to and communicate is beyond that. It is at a convergence of time and eternity when that which is seen is overwhelmed by what is not seen. We are a faith-based, faith-rooted, and faith-driven people and movement.
We not only appeal to what is obvious, we point to a healing day when all that is wrong shall be right, when all that is loveless shall be enveloped in love, and when all that is dangling in in-completion shall be drawn into cohesion and everything will make sense … the healing day!
